Catechin is a class of phenolic active substances extracted from natural plants such as tea, with a molecular formula of C15H14O6 and a relative molecular mass of 290.28. Melting point 212~216℃, soluble in hot water, ethanol, glacial acetic acid, acetone, slightly soluble in cold water and ether, almost insoluble in benzene, chloroform and petroleum ether. Catechin compounds are the main functional components in tea, accounting for 12% to 24% of the dry mass of tea. The catechin compounds in tea tree mainly include, catechin (C), epicatechin (EC), gallocatechin (GC), epigallocatechin (EGC), Catechin gallate (CG), epicatechin gallate (ECG), gallocatechin gallate (GCG) and epigallocatechin gallate ( epigallocatechin gallate, EGCG) 8 monomers. It is well known that catechins have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant effects. Among them, EGCG has the most prominent antioxidant properties, which can be activated by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), NO or reacting with ROS. The way to generate stable compounds effectively balances free radicals in the body.

1. Catechin is a natural oil antioxidant, and its antioxidant activity is even higher than that of vitamin E, and it can scavenge free radicals produced by the human body to protect cell membranes.
2. Prevent bacteria or viruses from attaching to healthy cells, and can also destroy toxic proteins secreted by bacteria, resist bacteria and viruses, and protect our cells.
3. Catechin has been confirmed by research to inhibit the activity of amylolytic enzymes in the intestine and reduce the speed of intestinal absorption of glucose, so it can slow down the degree of blood sugar rise after meals. Some studies have also pointed out that green tea and catechins can strengthen the effect of insulin, help blood sugar to enter cells and be used, and will not stay in the blood to form high blood sugar. Therefore, catechins are helpful for the regulation of blood sugar.
4. Lowers blood triglyceride and total cholesterol levels.
