It is obtained by steam distillation of the dried flowers of white-flowered chamomile (commonly known as English or Roman chamomile; anthemis nobilis) of the Compositae herb. Mainly produced in the United Kingdom,Belgium, France and other Mediterranean countries.
(1) Chamomile essential oil is light blue to light greenish-blue essential oil. It has a strong aroma characteristic of flowers and has a burning sensation. Chamomile essential oil can be yellow-green to brown-yellow when stored for a long time.
(2) Soluble in most non-volatile oils, almost completely dissolved in mineral oil. Soluble in propylene glycol, but slightly cloudy. Insoluble in glycerol.
Soluble 50% in 90% ethanol (1:1) and 15% in 70% ethanol
