According to this definition, food fortifiers for the purpose of enhancing the nutritional content of food should not be included in the scope of food additives.

Food Additives Function and Uses

2. Antioxidants: Antioxidants inhibit the oxidation of fats and oils, preventing rancidity and maintaining the freshness of food products. They also protect certain nutrients and colors from degradation. 

3. Emulsifiers: Emulsifiers help mix water and oil-based ingredients, preventing separation and stabilizing emulsions. They enhance the texture and consistency of products. 

4. Stabilizers and Thickeners: These additives improve the texture and consistency of food products, giving them a smooth and uniform appearance. They are commonly used in dairy products, sauces, and desserts. 

5. Flavors and Flavor Enhancers: Flavors are added to food to improve taste or replicate natural flavors that may be lost during processing. Flavor enhancers intensify the existing taste of food. 

6. Colorants: Food colorants are added to enhance the appearance of products, making them more visually appealing. They compensate for color loss during processing and storage. 

7. Sweeteners: Sweeteners impart sweetness to food products without adding calories or with reduced caloric content. They are used as alternatives to sugar.

8. Acidity Regulators: Acidity regulators are used to adjust the pH level of food products for various purposes, such as preservation, flavor enhancement, or ensuring proper food texture.
